Our bags may be unpacked but our minds are still in Vegas where we and +10,000 others from the entire healthcare ecosystem recently met at HLTH 2023. The event didn’t disappoint with its high-energy vibe and focus on innovation and transformation.
With so many ideas shared, connections made, and social events attended, it can be hard to recall the biggest takeaways from HLTH. To help, we asked Arrive Health attendees to share their top 3 takeaways from the event. Here’s what they said:
Friction in the healthcare journey is real, and it’s the last thing patients need
Healthcare is designed to help the patient, so why is the patient journey so hard? This question bubbled to the surface time and again, with many panelists sharing personal struggles to navigate today’s complex healthcare system.
There was a lot of talk about delivering convenient, affordable care. Toby Cosgrove, MD, Executive Advisor and former CEO of The Cleveland Clinic (an Arrive Health Board Member), and the Chairman and CEO of CLEAR, known for helping us get through airport security faster, held a fascinating discussion on interoperability and how it can radically reduce friction. They spoke of a future in which data flows across the healthcare ecosystem, making it easier for everyone involved. A future where access to care or medications isn’t delayed and patients aren’t responsible for ferrying their records/scans between provider visits? That’s something we’re behind and working toward every day.
Investors to innovators: Let’s get down to business
It’s always exciting to see, learn, and fund a new or improved way of doing things. Over the pandemic years, investors were very generous with their support, providing record-breaking amounts of funding for digital health, hospital-at-home technology, and remote patient monitoring companies, among others. These investments helped some diversify their revenue during trying times, supported access to care when getting care in person wasn’t an option for many, and sparked a digital revolution we’re continuing to see flourish today.
This enthusiasm for innovation in healthcare hasn’t waned; however, our team reported a level-setting on the investor front. Investors seem more cautious and are looking for solid business fundamentals. Optimistically, funding is still available, especially for companies delivering value and who can demonstrate growth in today’s tough market.
Generative AI is on everyone’s mind
The AI hype cycle certainly didn’t skip HLTH. As one of our teammates put it, if you did a pushup every time you saw an AI reference in the exhibit hall, you wouldn’t be able to lift your baggage into the overhead compartment for the flight home.
Everyone’s excited about the promise of AI, Arrive Health included, and we were inspired by stories shared from the stage about its potential within healthcare. As an industry we should proceed with caution, deploying AI and automation in ways that deliver the highest value for providers and patients, like bringing high-quality data to the bedside and automating administrative tasks to enable providers and care teams to dedicate more time for direct patient care.
What’s next?
With multiple days, multiple stages, and multiple tracks, it was impossible to catch all of the action. What wasn’t hard to grasp was the genuine passion attendees had for creating a better future for all – something Arrive Health works on every day by making prescribing and adhering to affordable medications simple for providers and patients. Industry collaboration and a focus on maintaining progress while steadily pursuing massive steps forward (yes, we’re talking about you AI) will surely keep the momentum going until next year’s convening.
